This provides an effective force-multiplier during wartime (or whenever 'surge operations' are required) and ensures the cost of deploying Gripen away from its main base is the lowest of any aircraft of its class.

During operations from its main operating base and when on deployed operations, Gripen has a minimal requirement for ground support infrastructure and equipment.
